John Thompson - Shackleton Leadership Model

Held on 26th April 2013

John gave us an overview of the different leadership models being used currently. In his opinion, based on many years of academic teaching, the Bass model is the most comprehensive with most other models fitting under the Bass umbrella. John and Catherine Doherty used a series of film clips to illustrate the different styles that Shackleton used - from his initial idea, engaging funders and then reaching a group of men with different personalities on their epic journey to safety after losing the Endeavour to an ice flow. It took two years. An extraordinary story that beautifully demonstrates the different styles of leadership needed in a range of contexts with different individuals.
